Promusicae always supporting Spanish music

Sounds from Spain strengthens its presence in Midem

31-01-2014

Promusicae will participate together with 17 Spanish companies in the leading international event of the music industry

Under the umbrella of the Sounds from Spain showcase, Promusicae and the rest of bodies and institutions that conforms it will have presence in the Midem event in Cannes from 1st to 4th February. This international event is the most relevant professional gathering of the year for the recording industry, with over six thousand music promoters, publishers, labels, experts and general visitors.

The Spanish pavilion will include stands for 17 Spanish companies among record labels, publishers and managers. This means a 20% increase compared to last year’s participation and endorses the rising interest of the sector in building up an international presence of Spanish music. Public body ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones is in charge of the coordination of the Spanish landing in Midem.

This year’s theme is «Get back to Growth? Make it Sustainable! » and the message to be transmitted is a cautious optimism on the new business models, after a long decade of incessantly dropping revenues in the sector. The Midem spirit fits with the figures reflected last November in the White Book of Music in Spain, edited by Promusicae: already in 2012 the Spanish music sector revenues of foreign origin increased by 29 percent compared to the previous year. This report also placed on record that the digital environment already represents 46 percent of Spanish phonographic producers’ income.

Midem 2014 will be preceded, as has become a tradition for the last fifteen years, by MidemNet, a forum devoted to new technologies that includes dozens of promotional music performances of all styles and tendencies. In 2013 edition some 1,350 exhibitors and 6,400 visitors participated in the event, 350 of which were journalists. Together with Promusicae, Sounds from Spain showcase also includes INAEM, Fundación SGAE, AIE, ARTE and UFI.
