Sounds from Spain, music showcase actively supported by Promusicae since its establishment, will bring to the new edition of South by Southwest (SXSW) 2014 some of most representative Spanish artists and bands. Venues include dozens of bars, clubs, etc. and the festival constitutes one of the most relevant places gathering music professionals, national and international. Acts chosen for this year’s SXSW are Arizona Baby, Betunizer, Fuel Fandango, Kiko Veneno, Lori Meyers (all of them produced by Promusicae members) and Soledad Vélez, an example of eclecticism present in today’s Spanish pop music.
International market represents a growing asset for Spanish music. Exports from Promusicae members accounted for 17.4 million euros in 2013, an increase of 4 percent regarding previous year. This positive development is mainly due to the rise in the number of live performances of our artists abroad. European Union countries, USA and Mexico head the list of Spanish music bigger consumer territories. Attending this festival is key for the promotion of our music industry in the USA.
Sounds from Spain is a showcase of public and private bodies that encourages the international promotion of Spanish music and represent the music sector. All six Spanish representatives will feature collective performances on Wednesday 12 and Friday 14 March, with shows in two different venues to let enjoy their music to hundreds of eyes of music promoters and other professionals from all over the States and dozens of foreign countries.
ARIZONA BABY (www.subterfuge.com) is an acoustic rock band with a clear US inspiration. Performing in English, they have just published The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth, an album that dives in their more lyricist side, close to psychedelic folk. Awarded in 2010 as Top New Artist and Band of the Year for My Space, they have shared stage with international acts such as Mark Knopfler, Clem Snide or Chris Isaak.
Gran Veta, third álbum by BETUNIZER (www.bcoredisc.com), is a compendium of everything that made this band great: a combination of post-hardcore, punk and noise DNA, a complex rhythm section and funky; an urgent and sarcastic singing style and guitars full of roughness. Already known in the European circuit, Betunizer have attended Barcelona Primavera Sound and Porto’s Optimus Primavera Sound, besides playing for Daniel Johnston.
