PROMUSICAE COLLABORATES IN THE II CONGRESS OF WOMEN IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY AS PART OF ITS COMMITMENT TO GENDER EQUALITY

NOVEMBER 15 & 16 - ATENEO LA MALICIOSA (MADRID)

Conferences, roundtables, networking sessions, and workshops will offer a space to think and discuss the state of gender equality in the music industry.

On November 15th and 16th, Madrid will host the II Congress of Women in the Music Industry, "LA OLA QUE NO CESA", which will once again bring together professionals in the field from all over Spain at Ateneo La Maliciosa (C/ Peñuelas 12).

The first MIM congress, held in 2021, with the support and collaboration of PROMUSICAE, focused on the reconstruction of the music industry with a gender perspective following the pandemic. In this second congress, conclusions of pioneering gender equality studies in the industry, fostered by MIM, as well as the results of the MIM Self-Assessment Equality Test will be discussed.

The II MIM Congress - "LA OLA QUE NO CESA" aims to hear the views of prominent women in the sector as well as artists with diverse feminist perspectives and discourse. It will count with the participation of Jazmín Beirak, Ministry of Culture's General Director of Cultural Rights, who will speak on the significant work being done by the General Directorate of Cultural Rights, the momentum generated by the Ministry of Culture’s Gender Observatory, and details of the recently established Unit for Prevention and Action Against Gender-Based Violence in the Audiovisual and Cultural Sector.

Besides, there will be roundtables with female experts in various areas of music industry management: professionals with leadership experience in major record companies, distribution firms, programming, production, artists, and experts in standards and legislation. The voices of dissident groups and other industry subsectors where women are particularly underrepresented will also be heard.

Notably, the ultimate goal of "LA OLA QUE NO CESA" is to provide continuity in the fight for gender equality in the sector. To this end, one day of the congress will be dedicated to organizing different working groups to identify key issues concerning the association that it seeks to address publicly and politically in the coming years. The objective is to develop a report with proposals and conclusions that will serve as a roadmap for positioning the association and advocating before public and private sector stakeholders.

"We believe it is essential to have our own forum for discussion, where we can highlight important issues, current topics, and new perspectives that affect all players in the music industry in general and women in particular", stated MIM Association.

Attendance to the II MIM Congress - "LA OLA QUE NO CESA" is free under prior entry reservations available through Weezevent at this link.

"LA OLA QUE NO CESA" is made possible thanks to the members of MIM and the support of INAEM—the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music of the Ministry of Culture—the Department of Culture of the Madrid autonomous government, PROMUSICAE, SONY Music, Altafonte, AIE, Spotify EQUAL, Weezevent, and Ateneo La Maliciosa, which will host the congress.
